Wilderness Outfitting Temagami and Marten River
WILDERNESS OUTFITTING - 10 tested, tried and true tips for the novice camper:
1) Pitch a tent in a downpour- Bring lightweight tarp. If its raining hard when you get to camp quickly set up the tarp and put the tent up underneath it. Now you have a place to sit and eat too. Howie Wolke
2)Pitch tent in the wind- Anchor tent before poles go up. Next is to clip one half of the rainfly to the tents windward side, bunching it up on the ground. Then pull it over the body and attach to the other side. Also remember to put fly in stuff sack first and body second so you can remove the body without the fly blowing away. Mark Postle
3) Trees vs. Meadows- If you have a choice between camping in a meadow or in the trees a wise choice is the trees because meadow is colder and dewier in the morning as well as less impact and damage to the area. Howie Wolke
4) Make a warmer fire- To get more heat from your fire without using more wood, hang a blanket from a tree or a rock wall just a few feet away from the blaze and this will reflect the heat back towards you. Tammi Hinkle
5) Dry drenched fleece- Vigorously swing wet fleece over head in circles and water will fly off. Gail Green
6) Fixing blisters- Smear a thick glob of petroleum jelly on the outside of your sock right over the sore spot, youll relief from the rubbing. Molly Loomis
7) Burn potato chips- Put a flame to these greasy snacks and youll get an instantaneous, hot fire. Tammi Hinkle
8) A Frisbee- Provides endless entertainment around the campsite and multitask as a water or berry collection dish, a fire fan, a plate, a cutting board and most importantly an emergency paddle. Sara Gagon
9) Start a fire with pitch- Add a teaspoon of this sticky substance found on pine trees and other evergreens to your kindling, your fire will start right up. Kathryn Hess
10) Make sparks- Touch steel wool to the end of a 9 volt battery and youll have an instant spark to start your fire. Tammi Hinkle
